BEHIND THE BRAND
The mind behind Kool As Nerdz® is that of Kevin Hall aka Kevin Alfonso. A college graduate and Marine veteran, Kevin was inspired to create the Brand with the blessings of the young people he encountered, as he observed, listened and mentored to their needs and wants.
Struck by the intelligence of some of the troubled youth he encountered, he recognized street smarts were necessary for their survival; positive messages, images and genuine support can turn a life around or head it in the right direction. He accepted young people as they were and the hand they had been dealt. He knew most had an abundance of street intelligence and would often encourage them to bolster their book intelligence.
Hence, Kool As Nerdz® was born!-“Where Street IQ meets Book IQ".
Kool As Nerdz clothing is for and about everybody. It’s a fusion of being Cool, Hip and abstract coupled with those who are smart, plain and technical blended together, to form the perfect mind set of Intellectual capital.
The influence of the brand and its unique message has a strong social component in that, it was created to represent those who use brain power to achieve positive ends without selling out for instant gratification. In other words, being comfortable with yourself. Paying dues with your time, energy, mental fortitude, courage, creativity, integrity, sacrifice and a “cant stop, wont stop attitude in “handlin' your business," all the while, not bowing down to negative societal pressures.
Kool As Nerdz have taken a frontal attack on illiteracy and the waste of human capital that a growing number of youth/people represent. It vows to be the voice for those who handle their business in the classroom to the locker room to the dressing room to the board room. From the streets to the suites to the khaki suits to the business suits. From the "in crowd" to the outcast from the at-risk to the scholars.
